Anne Drost

Anne Drost is a Partner at Blake, Cassels & Graydon LLP. She has been practicing for over 20 years in various fields of energy law and environmental law, including climate change and regulatory. She advises multinational clients on corporate social responsibility (CSR) matters and also practises in the area of aboriginal law.

Anne has extensive experience in advising clients on environmental matters, including regulatory approvals and compliance, and in transactions such as the acquisition or disposition of land. She regularly works with clients in the energy sector, in particular in the transportation of oil and gas. With respect to aboriginal law, Anne assists clients in the private sector on matters pertaining to consultation and negotiation with aboriginal people, notably in the context of the development of natural resource projects. In this regard, she advises on aboriginal claims and assists in the negotiation of agreements between project proponents and First Nations, such as impact benefit agreements, consultation protocols and other arrangements.

On top of her practice, Anne is a regular sessional lecturer at McGill University. She recently taught a course on Law and International Development at McGill’s Institute for the Study of International Development (ISID) and has trained corporate executives on CSR both in Canada and abroad as part of ISID’s Executive Education Program. Anne has also taught several courses at McGill’s Faculty of law including Energy Law and Climate Change.

Anne is currently the  Chair of the Board of BioFuel Net Canada and is also a member of various associations and organizations, including Women in Mining Canada, the Canada Green Building Council, the Canadian Bar Association, the Pipeline Association of Quebec, and the Prospectors & Developers Association of Canada.
