Letter to the Future from the Premier of Ontario, Kathleen Wynne

Letter to the Future from the Premier of Ontario, Kathleen Wynne

As Ontario’s current Premier, I am honoured to have this opportunity to address the leaders of the future.

In 2017, as Ontario and Canada turn 150 years old, we are striving to better understand our past, and unite around a shared vision of our future. I’ve always been fascinated by history — how we got to where we are today. Though the past is not the answer, it does offer us guidance as we look 15 years, and even 150 years down the road.

I think we can all agree that Ontario should be a place where everyone is able to benefit from and contribute to our growth and success. That’s really how the Ontario we know today was built — by harnessing growth in the economy to make a positive difference in the lives of all who live here. Universal public health care, the college and university system, even our highways and the GO rail network demonstrate how investing in our province creates real, everyday benefits for workers and their families.

Starting this September, our government is introducing free tuition for hundreds of thousands of students who dream of going to college or university, but worry about being able to afford it. They will be able to get a higher education based on their ability to learn, not their ability to pay. Letter to the Future from the Premier of Ontario

I believe our future leaders must continue to strive to make our province fairer and more inclusive.

Ontario is widely regarded as one of the best places in the world to live, and one of the most diverse. Those aren’t two separate points. They’re two sides of the same coin. A diverse country like ours — one that people from all over the globe call home — is going to offer a broader perspective and a deeper understanding of the world. Our people are more likely to think outside the box and develop innovative solutions to challenges. Letter to the Future from the Premier of Ontario

We are living in a challenging period — a time of change and uncertainty. Our planet is heating up, and protectionism and xenophobia are on the rise. It is more important than ever to support one another, and stand up for our values, and do that not just in our speeches, but in our legislation. That is how we build the prosperous Ontario I want the leaders of the future to inherit. Letter to the Future from the Premier of Ontario

Sincerely,
Kathleen Wynne
