Communication on Progress & Communication on Engagement
Communication on Progress (COP) is an annual public disclosure that demonstrates a for-profit company’s commitment and progress in embedding the Ten Principles of the UNGC into their business strategy and day-to-day operations. Often is the COP a part of a company’s Sustainability Report or Integrated Report. The COP must include: a statement by the chief executive, a description of practical actions and a measurement of outcomes. The Communication on Progress aligns with the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI), International Integrated Reporting Council (IIRC) and CDP (Carbon Disclosure Project).
As of October 2013, non-business participants are required to submit a Communication on Engagement (COE) report every second year.
Violations of the UN Global Compact’s COP policy and failure to issue a COP will change a participant’s status to non-communicating (on the UN Global Compact website) and will result in expulsion from the UN Global Compact.
