Tell us about your role and how you are contributing to the society:
As a client facing resource at IBM Canada, I support local businesses with initiatives in technology and innovation. My role involves engaging with clients and coordinating with IBM’s global research teams, solution architects and business executives. Working across domains and across industries, I have supported projects in water treatment technology, genomic research as well as financial fraud detection to name a few.
Presently, what do you like about Canada?
There are simply too many things to like about Canada: incredible scenic landscapes from coast to coast, a wealth of land and natural resources – the list can go on forever. But what I like most about Canada at present is our nation’s active role in the critical matters of our time, such as refugee accommodation, global warming, sustainability as well as technology and innovation. Canada is clearly leading significant research and development efforts aimed at making the world a better place.
Your Letter to the Future:
As we approach the end of 2016, we see the future as an increasingly uncertain landscape. Recent years have witnessed ‘disruption’ emerge as a buzz word which has led to changed business models, restructured organizations and a general sense of ‘change or die’ in the business world. Meanwhile, empowered consumers across the world use social media to share everything from their Christmas presents to real horror stories from active war zones. World nations who should align themselves to stop atrocities against innocent victims are turning a blind eye to basic human rights violations. The world is a strange place today.
I see Canada playing a crucial role in shaping the future. Canada will have to persevere and continue to be that voice of reason on the international stage. We will need stronger global economic power and influence to silence the warmongering leaders of the world.
In decades to come, Canada must remain inclusive and accepting of all cultures, religions, beliefs – including refugees, immigrants, indigenous people, and members of the LGBTTIQQ2S community.
My letter to the future would not be complete without any mention of Canada’s unique ability to protect our natural environment. Canada will be seen as the torch-bearer for leading efforts in sustainability. A wealth of renewable energy resources position Canada to continue providing a cleaner way of life for generations to come. Canada can also provide a safe place to preserve wildlife and ocean-life given the expansive mass of land along with surrounding oceans.
Canada and Canadians have a responsibility to work towards a better future. We shall strive to leave behind a better planet for our children and our children’s children. I can confidently say that the impact Canada will have for a better tomorrow makes me a very proud Canadian today.
