Kevin Coon divides his time as a trusted and strategic adviser on local human resources and labour issues as well as global labour and human rights. Kevin is certified as a specialist in Labour Law by the Law Society of Upper Canada and is a certified Corporate Compliance and Ethics professional. He has been ranked and recognized as a leading management side labour and employment lawyer by his peers and clients.
Mr. Coon assists with the interpretation and application of local and international labour and human rights, ethics, compliance, employment laws and practices. He develops and implements employment and workplace policies and codes of conduct for global and local enterprizes. He has assisted clients with understanding, complying and responding to complaints under the OECD Guidelines for Multinational Employers, the Global Compact, ILO Freedom of Association Committee, the North American Agreement on Labour Co-operation, the International Finance Corporation Performance Standards, the California Transparency in Supply Chains Act and UK Modern Slavery Act and other international human and labour rights standards and legislation.
He currently serves on the United Nations Global Compact Advisory Group on Supply Chain Sustainability, and has served in various capacities as a representative to the International Labour Organization including; the Application of International Labour Standards Committee, drafting committee considering “Decent Work and the Informal Economy” and “HIV/AIDS in the World of Work, Resolution 200”, Employer spokesperson on the Expert Committee on “Working Time” and selected to participate on the Experts Committee on Corporate Social Responsibility.
He lead a team and authored the UNGC Business Framework for the Rule of Law, launched by the U.N. in June 2015. In addition to his legal practice, he is currently the Managing Partner of the Toronto office of Baker & McKenzie and serves as Chair, Global Policy Committee of Baker & McKenzie. Kevin also serves as the Board of Covenant House, a not-for-profit organization providing life altering services to homes youth in Toronto.
